One of the true wonders of the Peace Corps is how the lives of two people from a world apart can become so intertwined in such a short amount of time. In August 2005, this man – my counterpart – arrived at a Peace Corps conference to escort me to my new village home. He spoke no English. I was just learning Romanian. Seemingly, we had little in common. One year and a thousand experiences later, I shared in the joy of his wedding day – a memory that ranks among the most treasured of my lifetime.
