During the second phase of my pre-service training, I stayed in a village on the main island of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia. My host family there is from the Lamotrek Atoll, but they moved to the main island as Callistus (host father) got a job with the Department of Education and started renting a house. The house was not in the best shape, and most people from the outer islands live in permanent housing in a village arranged for their island. On weekends we'd drive to Gargee to work on the house my hosts were building on their extended family's compound. On the way back--Oct. 3, 2009-- I snapped this shot of Lex (host brother) while we drove home and he studied a channel to the ocean (hidden in the black). The motion of the pick-up, the sunset light and the tree we were passing combine to give a cool photographic twist.
