A volunteer works as part of a 3-man tuberculosis team in Baghlan, a small town in northwestern Afghanistan. Peace Corps is working with the Afghan Ministry of Public Health to try to prevent, control and treat TB which exists in epidemic proportions there. Each TB team consist of a nurse, a lab technician and an administrator. The volunteer is the nurse on this team which operates a clinic at Baghlan hospital. Each member of the team is training an Afghan counterpart who will take over after they leave. As nurse, the volunteer treats TB by handing medicine and giving injections. She also does some vaccinating and refers patients whom she can’t treat to the doctor there. April 1973.
