In a nearby taro patch the trainees get some practice at caribou plowing. A Sabah/Sarawak training group goes through the mill in Waipio valley, which is located 50 miles from Hilo. Efforts have been made to recreate a Southeast Asian village, which will expose the trainees to many of the hardships and deprivations they will encounter overseas. The training includes care, slaughtering, dressing and cooking poultry and livestock.
