Hospital Administrator Traveling in a Dugout Canoe
Photo Description
This Peace Corps Volunteer works as a hospital administrator for the only hospital in the San Blas Islands off the coast of Panama. As the hospital is very short staffed, she does everything from keeping records to giving x-rays. She also runs a TB innoculation program for children throughout the San Blas Islands, traveling from island to island in a dugout canoe, shown here. Here she prepares to innoculate children on the island of Achutipu. She studied medicine in Scotland and England and worked with the Red Cross during World War II. She has been a Peace Corps Volunteer for four years. 1969
