This photo was taken on World AIDS Day 2011. At the front of the class is a third-year student who led an informational session on AIDS/HIV Education in her high school classroom in the Philippines.
The day's events were a direct result of a SPA supported Training of Trainers project the month before. Peace Corps Volunteers and local resource speakers facilitated a training of 23 local community members to increase their HIV/AIDS awareness, knowledge, and leadership ability. A practicum at the end of the three-day training brought the new trainers (23 community members) to the local high school. The new leaders taught basic HIV/AIDS education in small groups, reaching over 100 youth.
Pictured is one of the students, a beneficiary of the practicum day, facilitating an HIV/AIDS information session.
Twelve peer-trainers facilitated HIV/AIDS education games and discussions that day, reaching almost 700 youth.
